Exhibition at Towneley Hall, Burnley
9th of March to 15th of September 2019
The family of Lloyd George Higgins are privileged to present this exhibition of original paintings and prints, the first of its kind for over 30 years.
On the 9th of March 2019 we launched this exhibition and were not sure how popular it would be. We have been delighted and truly overwhelmed by the response and are happy to announce Towneley Hall have extended our stay beyond the initial three months to a closing date of 15th of September, 2019.
Do come and visit to enjoy the private collection of Lloyd George's stunning original works.
As well as original watercolours, fascinating archive material including the artists's sketchbooks, early textile designs and children's book illustrations will be on display.
A series of quotes by Lloyd George explain why he chose the subjects he painted and the sense of fulfillment and pleasure his portrayal of the people gave him.
The centrepiece of the exhibition will be the stunning original known as Bee Hole End, Turf Moor which is a must-see for any Burnley Football Club supporter.
Adults and children of all ages are invited to recreate one of Lloyd George’s most admired abstracts, Cathedrals, from the large puzzle blocks available.
Thank you to all those who have helped the family to prepare and present this exhibition.
A special thanks to John Wright for his creative design and guidance. Also, to Richard Davies of Dysons Framers in Burnley for his framing expertise.
